Notes from the field: Ninh Thuan Solar Power

Prabaljit Sarkar, Director of Business Development at InfraCo Asia, was an instrumental part of the team that developed the recently commissioned 168MWp Ninh Thuan Solar Power project in Vietnam. In this article, featured in PIDG Pathfinder newsletter of December 2019, he shares his perspective on bringing one of the country’s first utility-scale solar power plants to life.

‘Fundamentally Innovative’ and Ready to Scale

In March 2018, Andy Bainbridge commenced his role as Chair of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), a multi-donor organisation that catalyses private investment in infrastructure in the frontier markets of sub-Saharan Africa and South and South-East Asia to boost economic development and combat poverty.

A private-sector leader with a longtime infrastructure focus, Andy is also the Group Chief Executive Officer of SBM Holdings Ltd. He was previously Global Head of Commercial Clients and the Chief Risk Officer for the Western Hemisphere for Standard Chartered. Andy has spent more than 20 years working in emerging markets, including 8 years as Chair of PIDG’s Infrastructure Crisis Facility Debt Pool and 10 years on the board of fellow PIDG company, GuarantCo, serving half of that time as GuarantCo’s Chair.

The Right Team for the Job

InfraCo Asia Non-Executive Director Amy Lee is a consultant with Singapore boutique law firm, Tan Kok Quan Partnership, where she specialises in infrastructure developments and government advisory work. Decades of experience working on projects in the region built up her belief that right mix of people is the key element in bringing new infrastructure initiatives to life.

Leading by Example

Singapore-based Mason Wallick is the founder and Managing Director of Infunde Development which is delivering InfraCo Asia’s South East Asia Developer Services Program. With almost 20 years’ experience working on energy and infrastructure projects in Asia alone, Mason is a veteran of the regional infrastructure sector. Bringing a multi-disciplinary approach to infrastructure development, Mason reflects on the way forward to closing Asia’s growing infrastructure funding ‘gap’.
